Sea Glass Marble necklace - 3 marbles on 16" sterling silver choker

  • £122.00

Gorgeous sea glass marble necklace with 3 marbles. Each marble is centre drilled and then strung onto a sterling silver 16" choker, spaced with sterling silver spacer beads. Codd marbles are approx 80-100 years old.

Every marble is unique and if the Sea has been rough, there are lovely tumble marks on it. Occasionally a marble might have a small piece missing, but they are all frosted. This is a feature and makes your marble that bit more special. These marbles have been worn down by the Sea and some are more oval than round now.

SIZE
Marbles are approx 15mm diameter

Length is 16" - this is a choker sterling silver necklace and the length can not be altered.

The colours of these marbles are graduating from lighter to near white and to the darkest aqua in the centre.

CODD MARBLES: The Codd-neck bottle was designed and manufactured to enclose a marble and a rubber washer/gasket in the neck. The bottles are filled upside down, and pressure of the gas in the bottle forced the marble against the washer, sealing in the carbonation. The bottle was pinched into a special shape, as can be seen in the photo to the right, to provide a chamber into which the marble was pushed to open the bottle. This prevented the marble from blocking the neck as the drink was poured. Codd bottles were used until the 1920s in Scotland/UK.

Seaham is on the East Coast of England, near Durham and Newcastle. During the Victorian times until 1890s fabulous art glass artisan manufacturing took place in Seaham. At the end of each day small amounts of coloured glass was melted together and given to the Sea... nowadays these end of day pieces of sea glass get washed ashore. Some pieces have shades of the same colour, others are rainbow coloured.

Outstanding sea glass jewels to last you a lifetime! Marbles are round, ball shaped, spheres. All pictures taken inside without flash.
