Black Mourning Button Guernsey Beach Necklace

  • £50.00

Absolutely stunning Victorian mourning glass button! This button dates back to the 1880s - early 1900s and was found on a beach on Guernsey a hundred years later. This lovely button would have adorned a silken black dress during the very fashionable period of Queen Victoria who made Mourning for Prince Albert a very important part of her life. The button is black glass and I’ve set it so the very beach worn shank of the button is facing the front. Only under a very strong source of light it shows it’s hidden secret colour - a deep purple, it is otherwise black.
